I got the chance to spend the day with the sweet and lovely Colleen Fiske last week, while taking her beautiful portraits (using my light grey Oliphant Backdrop). We had such a great time, and yes, Oh Dina! flowercrowns were involved. Colleen is the brains behind Styled in Lace, a really resourceful wedding inspiration blog tailored toward Atlantic Canadian brides. Teddy and I are so happy that she is one of our Industry Friends, and so thankful to have had our own vendor spotlight on Styled in Lace last week; check it out here if you missed it.

Give us a little history on yourself?
My name is Colleen and I’m a small town girl, with big world dreams! I grew up in rural Nova Scotia, went on to university to become a communications professional and now I live and work in Halifax, NS, helping Atlantic Canadian brides plan the wedding of their dreams. When I’m not pursuing my dreams of being an entrepreneur and working on Styled in Lace, you can find me dreaming up new places to travel, going for a long run on a new trail, or sipping a glass of red wine with my girl friends. Most importantly, I love love. The kind of love that warms your heart and gives you butterflies; the kind that lasts a lifetime. I believe in loving with your whole heart, for your whole life.
What is Styled in Lace?
Styled in Lace is dedicated to providing Atlantic Canadian brides with wedding tips, tools and resources using local vendors from their own backyards. Brides will find wedding content exclusive to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. From real weddings and vendor information to stylized shoots and inspirational ideas, Styled in Lace help every bride turn the day they’ve dreamed about into a reality.
What inspired you to bring Styled in Lace to life?
After chatting with many engaged friends about the lack of available local resources around when planning their weddings, I decided there was a need to have a comprehensive website dedicated to helping Atlantic Canadian brides create the wedding of their dreams. While brides loved websites like The Knot, Martha Stewart Weddings, and even Canadian favourite WeddingBells, there was no one-stop-spot for anything Atlantic Canadian focused. Enter Styled in Lace, a wedding website devoted to helping Atlantic Canadian brides, or brides planning a local wedding while living away, find resources they can use to plan their wedding.
What types of things do you blog about?
Styled in Lace features content exclusively from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
Monday’s are dedicated to my Vendor Spotlight series – I share interviews with vendors from across Atlantic Canada that help brides learn more about the different vendors available to them. It’s important for brides to connect with a vendor they love and the Vendor Spotlight series allows them to gain a glimpse into what vendors have to offer. Check it out here.
Wednesday’s are all about Real Weddings – Brides are very visual when planning their weddings (hence the reason why so many turn to Pinterest)! Showcasing Real Weddings across Atlantic Canada is great for several reasons. One it allows wedding photographers to showcase their work, helping them reach a broader audience of brides they might not otherwise attract; and two, Real Weddings helps brides decide on wedding vendors, colour schemes, wedding fashion, the look and feel and the location they love. Check it out here.
Friday’s feature Engagement Sessions or Stylized Shoots – Engagement sessions provide inspiration to newly engaged Styled in Lace readers who are looking for a photographer to capture their love and to help them determine what type of photo shoot they’d like. Stylized shoots are very similar, but take on a more inspirational feel. Brides can pull out bits and pieces of stylized shoots they love and incorporate it into their own wedding. Both provide great exposure to the photographer. Check it out here, and here.
What are your favourite wedding trends for the upcoming 2015 season?
I’m excited for the colour trends that will soon begin to emerge! I’m loving Pantone’s top colour picks for 2015 – aquamarine, scuba blue, lucite green – these colours will be huge (and are all personal favourites). Decor trends are starting to move away from the norm. We no longer see simple gold and silver, we’ll soon be seeing more copper looks. From centrepieces to stationary, this new metallic hue will be fitting for any wedding.
Why do you feel it is important to showcase weddings and industry professionals on Styled in Lace?
There is so much amazing local talent in Atlantic Canada and I feel that we need to be better represented as leaders in the wedding world. Our industry professionals and vendors produce amazing weddings – no matter what their business, they play a crucial part in making the bride and grooms day the best day of their lives. By showcasing weddings and local industry professionals on Styled in Lace, I’d like to think I’m helping brides to feel more connected to their weddings and the resources they use to make their wedding vision a reality, and vendors showcase the incredible services they have to offer.
How can industry professionals and/or couples submit their wedding photos for feature on Styled in Lace?
Whether you’re a recent bride, a wedding photographer or a wedding vendor, I’d love to hear about that special day! To submit a wedding, an engagement session or a stylized shoot, click here for more information about the requirements.
Tell us more about your Vendor Guide?
Brides and vendors alike love the Styled in Lace Vendor Guide – it’s providing Atlantic Canadian brides with the information they need to plan their dream wedding and local wedding vendors and industry professionals the exposure to attract more brides to use their services. Brides can choose vendors based on their province and can narrow it down to whatever category they’re looking for – flowers, wedding fashion and music to name a few. Check it out here. Becoming a member of our Vendor Guide allows vendors to add their profile to our growing community of talented professionals.
