Last week I had the pleasure and honour of photographing retired Canadian astronaut, Col. Chris Hadfield; he was the first Canadian to walk in space. Mr. Hadfield is such a wonderful speaker, extremely charismatic, funny and very captivating; I could have listened to him speak all day.

I learned a lot about him in the two hours I spent at the event; he is an engineer, former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot, has flown two space shuttle missions, and served as commander of the International Space Station.

He is also very musically inclined, and played his famous David Bowie cover of Space Oddity, as well as the song he co-wrote, and sang LIVE from the International Space Station, with Ed Robertson from The Barenaked Ladies (who was singing on Earth), called “Is Somebody Singing” .

He even received a lovely gift from an adorable little girl in the audience, who was beaming with excitement when he shook her hand; it was a lovely moment.
