JUST ICED

Today on Industry Friends we are featuring, the beyond talented, and fairly new to the wedding industry scene, Meaghan Adamski of Just Iced Custom Cakes!just iced - halifax weddings photography

Meaghan and I first met “virtually”, and very randomly, back in September 2009, shortly after Teddy and I were married, and prior to us beginning our wedding photography business. Her now husband Josh and I, used to work together back in the day at the amazing bar Merrill’s. Since he and I were Facebook friends at the time, Meaghan was able to see our wedding photos we had posted, and immediately picked out my wedding dress as the one she had had her eyes on for her upcoming wedding.  She then reached out to me via Facebook, to see if that was in fact the dress she had fell in love with online, and it was!  Meaghan and I were about the same size, so I offered to have the dress dropped off at a local bridal shop, so that she could try it on before ordering it.  It fit, she fell in love, and then ordered the dress.

…..fast forward 6 years, and here we are. She now makes beautiful custom wedding cakes, and I am a wedding photographer, who knew that we would both be in the same industry so many years later.  I truly believe that we are all meant to meet the people we meet, at the times that we meet them. There is no question that Halifax is a small city compared to others in Canada, but there are still almost 400,000 people here, so to cross paths in this serendipitous way makes me feel warm, and smile.

We are so happy to have Meaghan as a friend, and now an Industry Friend, she will do amazing things, and had already been in touch with several of our 2015 and 2016 brides to make their dream cakes.

Meaghan is such a sweet soul, and she makes the most beautiful wedding cakes. She is very passionate about her craft, and puts her heart and soul into every detail, of every cake. Can you believe that she made all of those flowers?! I can, because she is THAT good, and doesn’t she look so pretty in an Oh Dina! flower crown?

I also think she looks SO MUCH LIKE Anna Kendrick, what do you think?

Scroll through Meaghan’s photos (I will warn you, there are a lot of them this time, I couldn’t choose), then read all about her business started and helpful hints when deciding on your wedding cake.just iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photographyjust iced - halifax weddings photography

Give us a little history about your shop, and what made you choose to pursue cake design?
I have been designing & making cakes for about 6 years, but I decided to make my business official this past Oct 2014, introducing & launching my business name “Just Iced Custom Cakes” along with my website & facebook page. I work out of my cake studio in my home, but someday hope to own a shop! I am married and have two sweet little boys, Jack & Simon who are 1 & 3 years old. I currently also work as a dental hygienist, which I have been doing for the past 10 years. Once I started getting involved in my true passion of cakes, I found a way to balance both careers. Pursing cake design was a natural transition for me. I have been involved with art, painting as an artist for a number of years. I would say that my love and experience as an artist is ultimately what lead me to explore the world of edible art & creating beautiful wedding cakes.

How did Just Iced get started, and where are you located?
I guess you could say that Just Iced really got started the year I got married (2010) and that my own wedding in a way was inspiration for me pursuing something I love. I have been so lucky to have an amazing talented mother growing up who is an established artist and is an incredible art instructor. I was introduced to art at such a young age and its something my mother and I are both passionate about. I have been actively painting for over 10 years and both my mother & I have been fortunate to be able to participate as artists in annual events such as Paint-the-town in Annapolis Royal and Nocturne here in Halifax at the Humani-T Café where some of our work currently hangs.

The year I got married (back in 2010) I did all of the typical things brides-to-be do in preparing and planning my wedding. Searching online through hundreds, probably thousands of wedding cake photos and watching shows like Cake Boss, sparked something in me. I just knew I wanted to use my artistic background and learn how to apply it to create these beautiful and special cakes. I dove right in teaching myself through books, online videos and tutorials and forms…and haven’t looked back! I am 100% self-taught and proud of it! It’s amazing, rewarding and so incredibly fulfilling to watch your vision and a couple’s vision come to life in a cake creation and to know that your time and energy spent learning these techniques has allowed me the opportunity to do this. I am a home-based business located in Dartmouth.

Where do you draw your inspiration from when it comes to wedding cakes?
I draw my inspiration from a number of things when designing a wedding cake. I like to find out information from my couples, particularly details on colors, theme, flowers, décor and even the all-important dress!!
Sometimes I will see a photograph, or a flower or something so beautiful and I immediately think of how I can make that into or apart of a beautiful cake!

What are your favourite wedding trends, colours and themes for the upcoming 2015 season?
Favourite wedding trends for 2015 are definitely metallics..gold and silver. Neutral tones such as creams, blush & pink are also popular. Another unique trend beginning incorporates the “Chalkboard” look into a wedding cake. Very fun!

What would you suggest every couple should consider when thinking about their perfect wedding cake?
Remember to stay true to your heart and a style you love. Some brides already have their perfect cake in mind and others are searching for what that will be. I find it is helpful to do some research to get a feel for what you are looking for in terms of shape, size and a general theme.

What are some things that couples can have ready for their wedding cake consultation?
There is quite a lot of information couples can have on hand or be ready to discuss during a consultation. I am all about the details so for me, the more information couples can provide the better! Typical cake related information such as the wedding date, estimated guests numbers, general size, and a look or a theme of the cake, are always important. For those couples that are looking for help to design the perfect cake, I always recommend sharing as much as you can when it comes to wedding details. Things such as wedding colors, décor, flowers, theme, venue, even the dress all help with the design inspiration. I try to come up with ideas (which I bring to life in sketches) for my couples and work with them to create something that perfectly reflects their vision for the perfect wedding cake.

Do you ship your wedding cakes to other parts of the Maritimes?
How can people find you?
Unfortunately wedding cakes cannot be shipped; the risk for damage is too great. I do however offer delivery and will usually see all of my cakes through to completion, including delivery and set up. I can deliver & set up my wedding cakes throughout the Maritimes. I am heading to PEI and Antigonish to deliver wedding cakes in August this year.
